SMOOTH LEGS – A “FASHION” ACCESSORY WE ALL NEED. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE MUST-KNOW DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WAXING AND SHAVING – THESE MIGHT SURPRISE YOU!

Most women like to take charge of their own grooming and beauty rituals and pride themselves in knowing how to be their own hairdressers, make-up artists, and aestheticians. Pretty much every beauty procedure -waxing included- can be done in the comfort of your own home because there is a wide range of high-quality beauty products and Hair Removal Products available. However, hair care such as shaving vs professional waxing have many differences, we’re here to highlight why. With over 8 stores in Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal (with more stores opening up later this year) WAXIT, is a popular wax bar defined as a refuge of removal, a haven of hairlessness, a sanctuary of smooth. They’re dedicated solely to smooth skin. A place where men and women alike can go to wax it expertly and discreetly, free from the intrusions that come with visiting full service salons. We caught up with Michelle Bittkau, Marketing Manager of WAXIT SA, who shares the 5 most important differences between WAXING and SHAVING.

MUST KNOW ONE: How does one pick between waxing, shaving or laser? If waxing is done consistently, hair grows back slower, finer, and sparser. Shaving cuts the hair off at the skin so the quantity and thickness of the hair stays the same. It can also increase skin sensitivity and cause more ingrown hairs. Electrolysis and laser hair removal don’t work for everyone and can be unpredictable and expensive.

MUST KNOW TWO: Waxing is more than slapping it on and ripping it off. Our WAXITologist have been professionally trained to ensure that they remove all of your hair without irritating your skin. They will provide a full-on consultation to review your history and any medications that you are taking that might affect your wax. Plus they work quickly and efficiently to ensure that you are hair-free with minimal pain. With shaving, it’s quick and easy, but often leads to inflamed hair follicles, itching, ingrown hairs and razor burn.

MUST KNOW THREE: It’s all in the long-term results! People usually shave around or during their shower time and generally spend about 10-15 minutes doing so whether it’s shaving the face, legs, underarm or intimate areas—longer if it’s all them. This may not seem like a long time, but if you find yourself shaving every day or every other day, you will see that you are spending quite a bit of time shaving. Waxing cannot be done in the shower and the amount of time needed to wax varies depending on the sensitivity of your skin and the type of wax session being done. Although it may take longer to get waxed than to shave, you may only need to do wax every few weeks. If you wax consistently, it will take longer for your hair to grow back, and your hair may also grow back thinner than before! This will result in faster sessions and will save you more time. Voila!

MUST KNOW FOUR: Waxing VS Shaving pubic hair – let’s talk about it! The benefits of waxing VS shaving pubic hair or a bikini wax VS shaving goes to waxing, hands down. Having a trained professional who can reach those sensitive areas beats doing origami yoga in the shower to get to those nether regions. Plus, you don’t need to get “all up in there” every two days like you might with shaving. And while we’re at it, what’s the difference between Bikini, Brazilian and Hollywood? Well, Bikini (or Beach Ready) is the most modest: We remove the hair that extends outside of the panty line or crease of your thigh is removed. A Brazilian (or South American Smile as we like to call it) is for the more adventurous: A thin strip of hair is left down the middle of the bikini area, and a Hollywood is for the wild: All hair will be removed including that in between your bum cheeks.

MUST KNOW FIVE: Sensitive skin – time to stop shaving! If you suffer from a skin condition, shaving can aggravate any issues, particularly if you find yourself shaving every day or two. Dragging a razor over your skin can lead to sore and red rashes and uncomfortable irritation. Waxing allows you to choose hypo-allergenic waxes and added ingredients with moisturising properties. On top of that, an experienced professional will know how to treat different skin types and will be trained to prep your skin and treat it following a hair removal. Bonus must know: Our WAXITologists hate hair and they will always make sure that every hair is gone, even in those hard to reach places. Needless to say, there is a big difference between the results of a professional wax and at-home shaving. All in all, professional expertise is what puts aestheticians at the top of the choices for a good waxing. The perfect results you will get with them make up for the expense —which is actually not considerable. Whether it’s low-rise jeans, itsy bitsy bikinis or button downs, WAXIT makes sure you achieve your best look – smooth. To book an appointment at your nearest branch, visit https://www.waxit.co.za/store-locator
