Skin functional, an affordable South African skincare brand made its way into our hands, captured our hearts while enriched our skin. When we saw all the hype around this brand on social media, we simply had to try it and boy did it NOT disappoint.
We believe first impressions matter and were really impressed when we received the most gorgeous package from SKIN functional, a Proudly South African brand with all products formulated and manufactured locally. The attention to detail is just immaculate from the branded box and ribbon to the little notes. All products are vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, alcohol and fragrance-free.
Our beauty editor traded in her usual beauty products and only used SKIN functional for 3 weeks and within the first week, there was a clear difference – radiant and happy skin.
Gentle Exfoliating Tonic with 6% Mandelic Tonic
This is a new product introduced to their range in April this year. A gentle, leave-on, exfoliating Glycolic Tonic that removes dead skin cells and assists in tightening skin leaving your skin more revitalized, plump, with a healthy glow.
If you experience any dullness or poor complexion, tired and uneven complexion then this is the product you NEED to incorporate into your skin routine. This product is therefore well suited for the care of skin with acne vulgaris and can be applied daily with no risk of sensitivity and irritation.
Mandelic acid is harvested from the extract of bitter almonds and offers superficial dermal peeling that is gentler than other alpha hydroxy acids and it provides very good results when used to treat excessive actinic keratosis, hyperpigmentation, and mesh-like wrinkles, which are primarily caused by sun-induced aging of the skin. This product is therefore well suited for the care of skin with acne vulgaris.
Our editor used the tonic every morning after cleansing, dabbed a generous amount of product on a cotton pad, and applied it all over the face, neck, and decolletage. This tonic is a leave-on product, so after leaving to dry you can carry on with your skincare routine. This product is very gentle and special and a must-have in any skin routine, does not matter your skin complexion.
Daily Moisturiser
SKIN functional added its very first daily moisturiser to its serum-based range in December 2020, and describes it as a daily skincare staple for hydrated, healthier skin. This Daily Moisturiser consists of 5% Black Ginseng + ATP Complex that is suitable for all skin types and can be used both morning and evening for hydrated and healthier-looking skin. The moisturiser aims to protect skin by significantly reducing collagenase, an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin.
Black Ginsing stems from the Panax Ginseng root. This ingredient combination has been developed to be a powerful anti-oxidant for the skin that significantly enhances skin hydration by allowing more water to be captured in the skin. The Black Ginseng is collagen-boosting which enhances collagen production in the skin and assists the natural growth of cells to rebuild the skin. The ATP complex, made in the mitochondria is what powers the batteries of skin cells. As we age, we produce less ATP Complex. Increased ATP Complex increases the functioning of cells.
Our editor used the moisturiser twice daily after cleansing, the texture of it is thick and creamy, yet not rich or oily at all. It soaks into the skin within minutes and does not leave your face shiny or greasy. It leaves a healthy smooth finish that feels soft, nourished, and hydrated and is recommended for all skin types.
